Brazil is a country that moves to its own rhythm whether it be samba, bossa nova, the roar of waterfalls or the quiet of the rainforest. Stretching from the Amazon Basin to the Atlantic coastline, Brazil offers both iconic cityscapes and vast natural frontiers. In Rio de Janeiro, visitors can ride a cable car up to Sugarloaf Mountain, watch the sunset from Arpoador, or join a drumbeat-filled bloco during Carnival, where the streets turn into one massive celebration of music, movement, and color.
Sabi Sands Nature Reserve, located in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, is one of the country’s most renowned private game reserves. Sharing an unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park, it offers visitors a chance to see Africa’s iconic wildlife in an environment that feels both wild and exclusive. The reserve is particularly famous for its sightings of the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino) often spotted during guided game drives at dawn and dusk.
Hellesylt, a small village on Norway’s western coast, sits at the entrance to the famous Geirangerfjord and offers scenery that feels almost otherworldly. Steep mountains rise sharply on all sides, their slopes cut by ribbons of waterfalls that plunge into deep blue water. One of the most striking sights is the Hellesylt Waterfall, which thunders past the heart of the village and can be admired from several pedestrian bridges.
Sesriem, located in the heart of Namibia’s Namib Desert, serves as the gateway to the world-famous Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, two of Namibia’s most iconic landscapes. The dramatic red dunes of the Namib Desert, some of the highest in the world, are an awe-inspiring sight, particularly at sunrise when the light casts long shadows, creating an otherworldly contrast of colors.
Krabi, located on the southwest coast of Thailand, is known for its towering limestone cliffs, warm Andaman waters, and a coastline dotted with over 150 islands. One of its most iconic sites is Railay Beach, which is accessible only by boat due to the cliffs that cut it off from the mainland. Railay is famous among rock climbers for its natural limestone formations, some of which hang directly over the sea.
The turnoff for Locarno is located near Bellinzona, the capital of Ticino. By train, Locarno is well served from Zurich and Milan, as it is by road. Lovers of beautiful landscapes starting out from Geneva and Lausanne owe it to themselves to pass through Simplon and the Centovalli by taking the picturesque little train that links Domodossola to Locarno.
By plane, Locarno is accessible from most major European cities. Several medium-haul airlines (in particular Crossair) serve the Lugano-Agno airport (45 minutes from Locarno by car and Festival shuttle). Air travellers can also fly into Milan-Linate (two hours by car to Locarno) and Zurich (three hours).
