Moraine Lake is a glacial lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, surrounded by the peaks of the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Its turquoise water is fed by glacial meltwater, while dense coniferous forest covers the lower slopes around the shoreline. Its setting within the Canadian Rockies places it among alpine landscapes of steep peaks, glaciers, rock faces, and mountain valleys.
The waters and shores around Palmer Island support characteristic Antarctic wildlife. The surrounding landscape features steep mountain faces, glaciers, rocky islands, and narrow passages that create constantly changing views from the water.
King Island was discovered in 1798, and was a preferred breeding area for sea elephants and seals. Around the island are many shipwrecks, caused by the rough seas of the Bass Strait. There are four lighthouses on the island, which watch out for stormy weather. These are situated at Currie, Naracoopa and Stokes Point and Wickham, with the one at Wickham being the tallest in the Southern Hemisphere. From here there are fantastic views of the surrounding area, and so it is a must visit.
