Giza, Egypt, is a destination that embodies the mysteries and grandeur of ancient civilization, drawing millions of visitors every year to marvel at its iconic monuments. At the heart of Giza stands the Giza Plateau, home to the legendary Pyramids of Giza — the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure.
Connemara, on Ireland’s rugged west coast in County Galway, is a region defined by its untamed landscapes, Gaelic traditions, and tranquil pace of life. Known for its windswept boglands, heather-covered hills, and granite mountains, Connemara feels both remote and deeply authentic, a place where Irish language and culture remain vibrant. The area has long inspired artists and writers drawn to its wild beauty and poetic solitude.
Siesta Key is a barrier island off Sarasota on Florida’s Gulf Coast, known for its broad beaches and unusually fine quartz-crystal sand. Siesta Beach is the island’s best-known public beach, with a wide shoreline, shallow Gulf waters and facilities that include concessions, parking and beach access. The island is more than a beach destination, with Siesta Key Village providing a compact center of restaurants, shops and casual entertainment.
Apulia, or Puglia, is a sun-kissed region in southeastern Italy, renowned for its diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The city of Bari, Apulia’s capital, offers a captivating blend of historic charm and vibrant modern life. McMurdo is distinctive not only for its scientific role but also for the unusual scale of daily life in Antarctica. The station has a power plant, medical facilities, dining services, workshops, communications systems, and specialized vehicles used to support research in extreme conditions. Nearby Scott Base, operated by New Zealand, provides another important Antarctic research presence on Ross Island. McMurdo also supports flights and overland journeys to remote parts of the continent.
The capital, 450-year-old Asuncion ("Mother of Cities") merits a visit of unhurried nights - that way, you'll have time to sit in the main square and people-watch. The shopping in this grand city of 729,000 is the finest the country offers, and the cathedral and archaeological museum are both highlights. The governmental architecture is interesting; don't miss the Congressional Palace, Customs House and Government Palace (in the style of the Louvre). For an unofficial tour of the city, ride one of the turn-of-the-century trolleys to the end of the line and back -- you'll learn a lot more about how the people live than you would on one of the more official tours. There are some enjoyable parks, and the national cemetery is a local oddity: Its tombs, in a assortment of architectural styles, are laid out like a miniature city. Be sure also to take a cruise on the Paraguay River; this scenic three-hour trip is really relaxing.
