Alberobello in southern Italy’s Puglia region captures the imagination with its distinctive trulli houses. These structures were built using a dry-stone technique passed down over centuries, without mortar or cement, and their unique form comes from layer upon layer of limestone nestled from nearby fields. Alberobello’s trulli are so remarkable that in 1996 the historic center was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where more than 1,600 of these buildings still stand.

Antananarivo, Madagascar’s vibrant capital, offers a unique blend of cultural richness and historical depth. Perched on a series of hills, the city’s layout is characterized by its steep streets and traditional architecture. The Royal Palace, or Rova of Antananarivo, is a central landmark, offering a glimpse into Madagascar's royal past. Although much of the palace was destroyed by fire in 1995, the site remains a significant cultural and historical monument.

Koh Kood, also spelled Koh Kut, is an island in Trat Province near Thailand’s eastern maritime border with Cambodia. It is the fourth-largest island in Thailand and the southernmost major island in the Koh Chang group. Much of its landscape consists of forested hills, coconut and fruit plantations, streams, and sandy beaches along the Gulf of Thailand.

Rathlin Island is Northern Ireland’s only inhabited offshore island, lying about six miles from the County Antrim coast across the Sea of Moyle. Its small community is centered around a harbor on the southern side, while much of the island consists of farmland, open hills, rocky shorelines, and sea cliffs. Rathlin has a notably remote character despite its short ferry journey from Ballycastle.

The Conflict Islands are a small group of coral islands and atolls in the Louisiade Archipelago of Papua New Guinea’s Milne Bay Province. They lie in the Solomon Sea, southeast of mainland Papua New Guinea, and are surrounded by clear lagoon waters, coral reefs, sandbars, and uninhabited islets.

Flinders Island is the largest island in the Furneaux Group, located in Bass Strait between mainland Australia and Tasmania. Covering a landscape of rugged mountains, rolling farmland, white-sand beaches, and granite headlands, it is known for its remote character and rich natural environment.
