Adiyaman makes a good base from which to visit Nemrut Dagi National Park. On the summit of Nemrut Daagi (Mount Nemrut), at an altitude of 2,150 meters- the highest mountain in northern mesopotamia - sits the gigantic funerary sunctuary erected in the first century B.C. by King Antiochos I of Commagene. The engineering involved in creating the artificial tumulus- flanked by terraces on which rest the colossal statues of Apollo, Zeus, Heracles, Tyche and Antiochus - continue to amaze visitors.
In ancient times, Kaanapali was a royal retreat for the rulers of Maui, who delighted in the perfect three-mile stretch of white sand beach, the gentle waves, warm sunny days and the majestic West Maui Mountains. Maui royalty surfed, raced their outrigger canoes, feasted at luaus that lasted for weeks, and where the Kaanapali Golf Course now blankets the land, they played ulu maika, a form of lawn bowling with heavy lava balls.
Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York, set beside Mirror Lake and close to the larger Lake Placid. Surrounded by forested mountains, the community has a compact centre with shops, restaurants, galleries, and lodging along Main Street. Graz, Austria's second-largest city, is a hidden gem that offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and modernity. Its well-preserved medieval old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, invites visitors to stroll through cobblestone streets lined with Renaissance courtyards and Baroque façades. At the heart of the city is the Schlossberg, a forested hill crowned by the iconic clock tower, Uhrturm.
Dawes Glacier is a tidewater glacier in Endicott Arm, a deep fjord branching from the waters of southeastern Alaska’s Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness. The glacier descends from the Coast Mountains toward the head of the fjord, where ice meets seawater at a broad calving face. Towering mountains, steep cliffs, waterfalls, and dense coastal forest surround the fjord, creating a dramatic setting that is best experienced from the water.
Nestled in Kenya's Rift Valley, Nakuru is a city that captivates with its stunning natural beauty and vibrant wildlife. The city is renowned for Lake Nakuru National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its extraordinary flocks of flamingos that once numbered in the millions. Although flamingo populations fluctuate, the lake remains a sanctuary for other bird species and wildlife, including black and white rhinos, giraffes, and lions.
One of Holland's most charming sailing villages. The town is also known for its famous antique shops.
Other Popular Destinations in Netherlands
Amsterdam
Amsterdam, the 17th century capital of Holland, is often called the "Venice of the North" due to its numerous, boat-navigable canals. Truly rich in history, the oldest part of this populous, multicultural city is Sloten, which dates all the way back to the 9th century.
Rotterdam
If you find yourself in Rotterdam, there's a strong chance you've arrived by water. This popular port city (the second largest in the Netherlands) has gone through an architectural renaissance since World War II, with daring, innovative structures dotting the city (cube houses!) and defining its skyline. Café culture is on the rise here, so grab yourself a table and a cup.
